2020 Hot Wheels Car Culture Team Transport Collector Set

The Hot Wheels ’66 Super Nova was first released in 2012 in limited numbers exclusively on HotWheelsCollectors.com. It was offered again through the Red Line Club in 2014 and 2017, then was a Nationals Convention Car in 2018 – all of these in fairly limited production. In 2018 it became more widely available when it was included in the Drag Strip Demons series, and in 2019 it was part of the Car Culture: Team Transport series, included with the Retro Rig. In 2020, another Red Line Club offering – in Tootsie Roll livery – was released.

The 2020 Car Culture: Team Transport Collector Set again features the ’66 Super Nova and Retro Rig, but this time it also includes the ’55 Chevy Bel Air Gasser and the ’65 Mercury Comet Cyclone. Each model is decked out in matte black paint with silver Black Hole racing trim and they are packaged together in a nice racing diorama box. This example was generously included in the recent shipment from my friend Brad.

As far as I can tell, the ’66 Super Nova and Retro Rig in this Collector Set are identical (paint, tampo, wheels, etc.) to those in the 2019 Team Transport release. But the inclusion of the other two models and the diorama box make with a must-have combo.

2020 Hot Wheels Fast & Furious Motor City Muscle ’61 Impala and ’66 Chevy Nova

The first Hot Wheels series to be co-branded with the Fast & Furious movie franchise came out in 2013 and the segment has continued every year since. In 2019, the Premium Series was introduced, featuring cars with metal bases, Real Rider wheels and extra detailing. The Premium Series was broken out into 5 different segments, such as Fast Imports and Furious Off-Road, with groupings of 5 different castings under each theme. The Premium Series continued in 2020, with 5 new segments of 5 cars each.

These two examples from the 2020 Fast & Furious Premium Series came in the recent shipment from my friend Brad. Both fall under the Motor City Muscle theme.

The Hot Wheels ’61 Impala was a new casting in 2012 and has since been released in about 10 variations, including a really sweet model from the 2013 Cool Classics series. In 2019, it was included in the Fast & Furious series, with different variations in an individual blister and in a 5-Pack.

As you can see in the photos, there really is a step up in the detailing in this premium line.

I’ve seen all of the Fast & Furious movies at least once, but I didn’t remember ever seeing a ’66 Nova in any of them. So I was surprised to see this casting included in the series. Well, a little bit of internet research unearthed a photo of a ’66 Nova parked next to Dom’s Charger in a scene from the Fast 5. (The movies are generally packed with eye candy, so I hope you can forgive me for missing that detail.)

The Hot Wheels ’66 Chevy Nova was first released in 2007 and has since been produced in about 30 different variations. Among the favorites of this casting in my collection are models from the 2014 HW Road Trippin’ series and the 2018 Stars & Stripes series.

2020 Hot Wheels Muscle Mania ’64 Nova Wagon Gasser

For the most part I’ve been staying away from the big box stores during the pandemic, so I know I’m missing out on a lot of the recent release Hot Wheels. Fortunately, my friend, Brad, has been keeping an eye out for me and sent me a nice box of “new” stuff last month. Now that the 2021 cars are out, I’m glad to get my hands on this 2020 Muscle Mania ’64 Nova Wagon Gasser. This casting was new for the 2019 Race Day series; click here to see both variations of that model.

In addition to this red version, the 2020 Muscle Mania ’64 Nova Wagon Gasser can also be found in blue and light green paint.
