2022 Hot Wheels Replica Entertainment The Mystery Machine

The Hot Wheels The Mystery Machine was first released in the 2012 New Models series and has since been produced in about 16 different variations. Included in the 2022 Replica Entertainment series with excellent Scooby-Doo card art, it was given a metal base and Real Riders and decked out in wraparound tampo with nicely painted details.

I found my example last summer when I made a drive to the Derby, KS, Dillon’s (Kroger) grocery store, where I also picked up the Replica Entertainment Batmobile.

Unlike mainline versions of the Hot Wheels The Mystery Machine, this premium release has tampo on the front and back, as well as painted head- and taillights.

Other examples of the Hot Wheels The Mystery Machine in my collection include two variations of the 2012 first release and the 2014 HW City variation. I also have the 2019 Hot Wheels Screen Time Batmobile with The Mystery Machine livery. And I have a fun, larger scale The Mystery Machine from the 2022 Jada Toys Hollywood Rides series.

2022 Hot Wheels Experimotors Layin’ Lowrider Variations

Layin’ Lowrider was one of the Hot Wheels new castings for 2022. It is an unlicensed casting, but the design hints at the lines of the classic full-sized Chevys. It sits in an aggressive stance, with the rear end slammed to the ground and the front end in a high bounce. It was included in the Experimotors series, which has been around since 2017 and features vehicles with moving parts. With rods attached to the front wheels causing the motor to wobble as the car rolls, Layin’ Lowrider borrows a device from the Matchbox Rolamatics of the 1970s (click here to see the Matchbox Mustang Piston Popper from my childhood).

This variation of Layin’ Lowrider is coated in a rich metalflake red with pink pinstriping.

The below photo shows the rods attached to the front wheels which cause the motor to wobble as the car rolls.

The second variation of the Hot Wheels Layin’ Lowrider is a striking metalflake pale blue with black, gold and magenta pinstripes set off with gold 5-spoke wheels.
