2017 Hot Wheels Multipack Exclusive Chevrolet SS

When I found this 9-Pack at a Target in San Antonio during our Christmas trip there, I thought they must be sneaking cars from the Red Edition series into these multipacks. Since then, I’ve been assured by those who know better that this is not a Red Edition car and it is also not exclusive to Target. Well, I like to think this exclusive red on white decoration is at least inspired by the Red Edition series. (Compare it to the Red Edition ’68 Nova.)

This is the fourth Multipack Exclusive Chevrolet SS since 2016, and I’ve been fortunate to find all of them.

2017 Hot Wheels Chevrolet SS Multipack Exclusives

Sometimes you have to buy a whole bunch of cars in order to get the one you really want. That’s how it is with the exclusive variations that Hot Wheels puts in their multipacks. Buying a five-pack to get a single car is one thing. But these 9-packs are even more of commitment.

I’ve been enamored with the Hot Wheels Chevrolet SS since it first came out in 2012, and I’ve been collecting variations ever since. So I really had to take the plunge when, not just one, but two unique variations were released this year in multipacks.

I really like the orange-with-black on this first one.

But the yellow rims on this metallic green and yellow variation makes it even more striking.

This yellow variation is the multi-pack exclusive from 2016.

You can see the first-release Chevrolet SS as well as others from my collection here, here, and here.

My solution for what to do with the other cars in the multipack? I filled in the empty spots with random loose cars and resold them at my wife’s garage sale.

Don’t worry, I did keep the orange, flamed-out Nova that was in this multipack, even though I already have it in a single blister. You can never have too many Novas.

2014 Hot Wheels Zamac Chevrolet SS

I recently found the Zamac version of the 2014 Hot Wheels Chevrolet SS – one that I wasn’t lucky enough to find in stores when it first came out – at the Village Flea Market. The casting represents a GM-manufactured, Brazilian Impala/Opel hybrid called the Opala. I have the dark blue version from 2014, as well as the 2012 first release and a sweet 2013 variation with racing graphics.

I do not have the Treasure Hunt version that came out in 2014, and I just noticed hobbyDB is showing a pearl yellow version that is exclusive to 2016 multipacks. Now you know what I’ll be looking for next.

2014 Hot Wheels Chevrolet SS

I passed up one of these in the dump bin the other day because the card was badly creased, but I found this one hanging from the pegs at a different WalMart a few days later, making it the first 2014 Hot Wheels that I’ve bought. The 2014 HW Workshop Chevrolet SS is the third variation of this casting, which was first released in 2012. It’s based on the Chevrolet Opala, which is sort of an Impala/Opel hybrid that was made by GM in Brazil. I also have both the 2012 and 2013 variations in my collection.

2013 Chevrolet SS

I found this Chevrolet SS last night at Target. I’ve heard lots of complaints about the 2013 packaging, but I actually like it better. If you crouch down and look from below, you can read the names of the cars listed along the bottoms of the cards. I find it’s easier than trying to read the sides of the cards when they’re crammed together on the pegs.

The Chevrolet SS – or more accurately a Brazilian 1968 Opala – was a new casting in 2012, and the original is pretty sharp. But I love the deep red color and the racing decoration on this version.

2012 Hot Wheels New Models Chevrolet SS

I didn’t know anything about this car until I saw it in the Hot Wheels Sneak Peeks several weeks ago. I recognized what I thought was the front end of a late 60s Nova, but was confused about the back half of the car. The generic name “Chevrolet SS” didn’t offer any clues, so I had to do a little research to figure out exactly what this was. GM manufactured the Opala – the name derived by combining Opel and Impala – in Brazil from 1969 until 1992. The car was popular because of its reliability and easy maintenance and was used for everything from police cars to taxis to race cars. Later models look much less like anything related to a Chevrolet, but I’m going to gladly display this one along side my many Novas and Impalas.
